With the Class of 2011 getting ready to schedule their senior portraits, this Wardrobe Wednesday is perfectly timed. This week’s contributor is the always stylish Lindsay Horn of Lindsay Horn Photography in Texas. She’s put together two gorgeous outfit suggestions for high school senior girls.

Lindsay writes:

When anyone asks for suggestions on what to wear, the first two things I always say are layers and textures.  A mixture of textures and layering can add so much depth to an image and make it overall more visually interesting.  I tried to capture those two ideas in these outfits for a senior girl.

I also like to tell my senior girls to accessorize!  The beauty of an accessory (like the sweater, headband, or even funky jewelry) is that you can wear it for a few shots and take it off for a few shots and get some different looks.  Outfit #1 is a great casual outfit with a nice pop of color.  Outfit #2 is a little dressier, and I included a couple of options for shoes.

Seniors have become one of my favorite groups to photograph – so much so that I created a website just for them – MDP Seniors. I’m starting to reserve dates now, so don’t feel like you have to wait until school lets out. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an e-mail or call!

Today’s Wardrobe Wednesday is from the seriously cool and talented Erica May of Erica May Photography from North Texas. If you’re a Facebooker, you can also find her here.

Erica writes:

This week I went with a Blue theme since it is my favorite color and looks great against many different backgrounds. This could be used as an idea for a couples session, a family session, or a sibling session. The shoes can easily be changed out if you already have ones that work too. For Dad I added a hat, but it could also be used for the little boy if Dad is not a fan of hats.

When thinking about coordinating outfits, I always start with one color (for this instance it was blue) and go from there. I hope you enjoy it!

I first met this amazing family (and big sister Avery) almost a year ago. When I found out they were adding to the family I was thrilled! Greyson couldn't arrive soon enough :-) He was such a trooper during the shoot, and slept almost the entire time. Oh…to be a baby again.

I hope you guys like your sneak peek pics! And thank you again for letting me photograph your family during such a special time.

I hope you all enjoyed the first installment of Wardrobe Wednesday as much as I did! If you missed it, click here. This week’s post is by Jennifer Minor of Minor Impressions. She’s put together something I think you’ll really like. The key word is COLOR.

From Jen…

Normally I suggest to my clients that for family photo sessions, the wardrobe should revolve around the kiddos. I usually pick out one outfit (normally the little girl’s) that brings together everyone else’s attire.  This week is a little different though because I decided to pick a wardrobe for a maternity shoot.  Of course, this revolves around the mama, so everything I picked out was made to go with the her outfit.  The great thing about this plaid shirt is that there are so many colors to choose from for the kiddos and the dad to match, and just like last week’s suggestion, you still have a great wardrobe even if you only have the dad (or boy or girl) and mom in the picture.

My week is coming up soon, so leave a comment or e-mail me if there’s something specific you’d like me to cover. I definitely have some ideas, but I’ll keep them a secret for now…:-)

Well, I can’t be more excited about this one! I’ve been asked to join a group of seven phenomenal photographers from across the country who will try to answer the question, “What should I wear?” Every Wednesday we’ll post a new blog with ideas appropriate for all session types – newborns, families, seniors, couples, etc. I’ll pen one myself later, but this first post comes from Kelly Valeri of Kelly V. Photography. I promise to properly introduce you to everyone soon! For now, enjoy our first Wardrobe Wednesday!

From Kelly Valeri:

I wanted to choose options that would be affordable for most families, so I started at Children’s Place, which always has great looks at a great price. The only moderately pricey pieces are Mom’s capris and Dad’s leather sandals, but I guarantee you can find something similar for less almost anywhere. I accessorized a few pieces at Etsy because I’m a big fan of supporting local artists!

The best part is that if you don’t have kids, just ignore the boy and girl outfits and you’ve got a coordinated couple look. Just have a boy? Take out the dress and they still go great together. Just have a girl? … You get the idea.”

Here’s the this week’s Wardrobe Wednesday installment. The stores and prices are below.

It's easy to understand why people might think that the winter months are a bad time for a photo session. The sky is usually overcast, the ground is snowy or muddy, and the low temps require boots, jackets, gloves and hats.

Well, I'm here to show you that winter is actually an ideal time for a photo session.

Just take a look at this December session with Chloë and Bennett. We started inside by a warm fire, and then donned our boots, jackets, hats and gloves for a few minutes outside. I do have some hints and tips for Winter shoots, and I'll share those with you on this blog soon.

For now, if you'd like to see even more pics from this session, you'll find an album on the MDP Facebook page. I'd love to hear what you think!
