Mr. James: The Painter {a sneak peek}

This shoot is a wonderful example of what can happen with the right kind of props and some planning. I’m trying not to gush too much, but… wow.

Props are tricky. At Wardrobe Wednesday (which you can follow on Facebook right here!), we often talk about bringing the right kind of props to a photo session. The wrong kind of prop will make a child feel awkward, or make a scene feel forced and unnatural. The right kind of prop will let the child’s true personality and passion emerge.

And that brings us to James. He loves to paint, and his mom, Robyn, worked hard to come up with an idea that would allow for a fun setting – and one that was comfortable for James. In this case, the fall colors play gorgeously with the paints and surroundings, and you can see how comfortable James felt. Add the almost unreal sunlight and cloud interaction and, well, it was pretty magical.

James is only three years old, but in this shoot he’s like a little man. He has so much personality and so much love for his mother, and it’s wonderful to work with them.

Robyn, I hope you enjoy, and thanks for setting such a profound example of what can happen with the right props and right setting!
